How Our Reentry Program Works

Our Veterans Transition and Reentry Program centers on providing safe, reliable transitional housing paired with consistent case management. While the VA medical team and court specialists handle legal advocacy and court appearances, the VIC  the daily foundation: a clean, supportive home base where veterans can focus on rebuilding their lives.

Eligible veterans who are wanting to change their life path can enter our transitional housing program as part of an early parole option, probation requirement, or court-ordered reentry plan. We align our program structure with requirements from:

​

• U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA): Coordinating healthcare access, benefit connections, and VA Justice Outreach specialists.

• State of New Mexico Judicial System: Providing structured housing that satisfies court, probation, or parole conditions.

• Behavioral Health Services: Supporting connection to mental health counseling and recovery resources.

What We Offer & What We Expect

​

Success in our reentry housing program is built on mutual accountability. Veterans in this program receive a supportive environment to complete their court obligations while preparing for permanent independence.

Veterans participating in the reentry program are expected to:

​

• Follow all VIC housing program guidelines and house rules.

• Stay actively engaged with their assigned VIC case manager.

• Meet all court, probation, or parole requirements.

• Proactively address personal, health, or employment goals that support long-term housing stability.

What Veterans Receive

​

In return for active engagement and accountability, enrolled veterans receive:

​

• Safe Transitional Housing: A clean, stable, and secure place to live while completing program and legal milestones.

• Ongoing Case Management: Direct support to help manage daily goals, life skills, and long-term housing plans.

• Community Reintegration Support: A structured pathway aimed at reducing recidivism and securing permanent, independent housing in New Mexico.

Program Eligibility & Intake

​

To qualify for placement in the Veterans Transition and Reentry housing program, applicants must generally meet the following baseline criteria:

​

• A Veteran of the US Armed Forces (Active, Reserve, National Guard) or Un-remarried Surviving Spouse of a Veteran 

• Certain programs may require active-duty service to be eligible 

• Discharge Status: eligibility for programs varies and may depend upon the character of discharge.   

•  Must live in New Mexico and be seeking to improve your life. 

• Please Note: Program compliance is mandatory. Violation of program rules, safety policies, or house guidelines will result in administrative discharge and termination from VIC housing. The VIC is under no obligation to continue housing or services for individuals who have been dismissed for non-compliance.
