How Your Old Car Can Open New Doors for New Mexico Veterans

Picture yourself looking out into your driveway or yard. Do you see that old vehicle? The one that no longer runs or was supposed to be “the project car” that hasn’t been touched? If you’d like to put it to good use, we can help! That old car, truck, or even a wrecked vehicle could directly help put a roof over a local veteran’s head.
At the New Mexico Veterans Integration Centers (VIC), we’ve partnered with One Community Auto to make donating your vehicle incredibly simple. Best of all, every single donation directly funds our mission: helping veterans and their families facing housing insecurity in New Mexico receive the support they need.
Real-Life Ways Your Vehicle Makes an Impact
To show you how flexible and meaningful this program is, let’s look at a few common scenarios where an unwanted vehicle becomes a lifeline for a veteran:
Scenario A: The Low-Ball Trade-In
You want to upgrade your car, but the dealer only offers you a couple hundred dollars for a trade-in. If you donate it to the VIC instead, you qualify for a minimum $500 tax deduction, and the proceeds from your car could provide fresh clothing and basic hygiene supplies for veterans entering our programs.
Scenario B: The No Title Clunker
Maybe you’ve got an old vehicle that’s been sitting on flat tires for a decade, and the title is long gone. No problem! One Community Auto can accept vehicles in any condition—running or not, with or without a title. The proceeds from selling or recycling these vehicles directly fund our transitional housing programs.
Scenario C: The Insurance Total-Loss
When you donate a “total loos” car to us, we’ll handle the logistics, and you walk away with a tax write-off while helping veterans experiencing housing insecurity to get the help they need.
What types of vehicles can be donated?
We don't just take cars and trucks! Our donation program takes:
Cars, trucks, and SUVs
Motorcycles and ATVs
RVs, campers, and travel trailers
Boats and utility trailers
Farm equipment, tractors, and even airplanes!
How the Donation Process Works
We know you're busy, which is why we’ve stripped all the stress out of the process. If you decide to donate, we handle the heavy lifting:
Reach Out (Takes 2 minutes): Give us a call at 505-901-9510 or fill out the quick online form on the VIC Vehicle Donation Page.
Schedule Free Towing: We will coordinate a convenient time to pick up your vehicle from your home, office, or local repair shop—completely free of charge.
Relax While We Handle the Paperwork: Our team handles all the MVD title transfers and IRS tax paperwork quickly and efficiently, so you don't have to wait in any lines.
Get Your Tax Receipt: We work hard to clean up and sell each vehicle for the highest price possible. This ensures more money goes to veterans, and it gets you the largest possible tax deduction. We’ll mail or email your official IRS tax receipt right to you.
Ready to make a difference?
By donating your vehicle, you aren't just clearing up space in your driveway—you’re actively investing in helping the veterans – and their families – who are facing housing instability and crises. They served our country, and this donation can in-turn serve them.
To get started, visit the VIC Vehicle Donation Page or call the team directly at 505-901-9510.
