Larry J. Campos was born on December 07, 1955, and raised in Artesia New Mexico. He attended Artesia High School where he enlisted in the U.S. Army during his senior year. He graduated in 1973. Upon completion of Basic Training, Larry was selected to attend the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI) where he graduated in 1975 receiving an Associates Degree and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Reserve. On August 10, 1976, Larry was called to active duty and attended the Officer Basic Course at Fort Bliss, Texas. Larry served 18+ years as a Commissioned Officer in various assignments which included Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Company Commander, Squadron Commander, Research and Development Officer, and Military Intelligence Officer. Larry retired from the US Army as a Major (O-4) on September 1, 1994. Accolades include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with bronze oak leaf cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal with bronze oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with bronze hourglass devise, Army service ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Larry’s formal education includes an Associates degree from the New Mexico Military Institute, a Bachelor’s degree from Southwest Texas State University, a Master of Social Work from the New Mexico Highlands University and is a graduate from the US Army’s Command and General Staff College. Larry married Flora Vigil on February 10 1990, and has five children and nine grand children.
Affiliations
President of the Executive Board of Directors for the New Mexico Veterans Integration Centers. As President of the Board, he is able to respond to the needs of veterans with a focus on those who are homeless. Through case management, we are able to remove barriers to employment by providing quality employment training and supportive services and assist in the transition and reintegration of homeless Veterans into society.
Member, City of Albuquerque Veterans and Military Affairs Advisory Board. As a member of the Board, he is able to provide input that directly impacts programs directed to serve veterans and active duty service members in the Albuquerque Metropolitan area.
Member, State Advisory Council, Veteran’s First Jail Diversion Program. As a member of the council, he ensures that participants are provided a listing of the myriad of veteran-specific programs at the state, local and national levels which are aimed at rehabilitation, education, and reentry to the workforce, and assist participants with the application process (es) to the extent feasible. Through this committee, he is able to provide quality, effective trauma-informed behavioral health and substance abuse treatment alternatives for New Mexico veterans in contact with the legal and judicial systems.
Member, National Association of State Workforce Agencies, Veterans Advisory Committee. As a member of this national committee, he provides input that directly impacts employment and training programs directed to serve veterans and Transitioning Service Members.
Member of the State's Committee for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). ESGR provides "Ombudsman" services to assist employers understand reemployment rights of Guard and Reservist who have been deployed as well as to assist Guard and Reserve members exercise their reemployment rights.
Lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Being a member of the local DAV has enabled him work with veterans with disabilities. It also enabled him to identify Veteran owned small businesses and created a network of employers that hire veterans.
Member of the National Veterans Training Institute (NVTI) Alumni Association. Reviews existing NVTI training programs and makes recommended changes. Participates in the development of new training programs that impact our States Veteran staff.
Member of the International Association of Workforce Professionals. His participation in IAWP has enabled him to ensure that our Veterans programs are current and consistent with goals and objectives of the organization. |
